Last week I built and painted a set for the new
sermon series at The Journey.
"SOLID" Knowing you know God.
1 John
The set is made of styrofoam insulation panels (from Home Depot). I started with five 48" x 96" x 1.5" panels. Next, I distressed the hard edges by ripping chunks off the foam and using a wood file. I also scratched the front surface of the foam to create more texture. After I primed the panels (hint for the future: styrofoam is very thirsty and takes more primer than you would expect; and it doesn't dry as quickly either), I used a light gray as a base coat. Next, I used a two-color scumble painting technique and lots of water to push the texture coloring around the panels.
I very happy with how they turned out; and so are my supervisors.

Rachel and I would love to hear from you. If you have time, please strike up a conversation with us and other readers by leaving a comment!
